"New" Swag
Well, a local modeler has to bug out of the area, so he brought a couple baskets full of stuff to give away. I made out like a bandit.
This one, unfortunately, is missing the hull. If he can find it before he moves, I get it. Otherwise, I'll buy the pieces from Tamiya.
And last but not least, and Italeri T-55.
I'm working on the M3 Lee right now. It's an easy quick build. As you may know, the old Tamiya kit had a M3 rear deck but an M3A5 backside. Annoying. I could order the right parts from Tamiya from their M3 Grant kit, but I'd rather do the M3A5 and turn it into a Soviet lend-lease vehicle. I wanted to do this OTB, that's not gonna happen now.
The T-55 I'd like to make into a North Vietnamese T-54, specifically one of the ones entering the U.S. embassy in 1975.

Lucky you!
Looks like you have some work ahead.
The T54 gate-crasher sounds like a good idea [lots of reference pics out there I would think].

More stuff.
Last week I picked up Hobby-Boss' t34/85 1944 Angle jointed turret. This sucker's gonna be part of a diorama with my Soviet Sherman. It has a full interior, including engine.
Today my Academy M10 "Duckbill" came in today. It's got a full interior, plus engine. The engine's going in the M3 I'm building. It also has a set of sprues for early M10s, I'm guessing, mayb3e they're extra. Who cares. It's got the proper wheels for the M3. YAY!
I'll stick an image in here later, but I picked up a 1/48 Bandai King Tiger (Porsche turret) for $5. Neet! It's got a full interior, including an engine.
I also got an old Monogram 1/48 P-47D. This should be fun. One of the members of my local IPMS club, Flight 19 (you probably hate me now) has a resin interior for this kit he's just gonna give me. Also $5.
And I got a whole buncha a paint for free.

Flight 19 has been disinvited from a few competitions because we tend to win so much (not me, I've never competed). Hell, I opened up the IPMS magazine last night which had pictures of most of the winning entries, and right on the page I opened there was one of our guys, BD, who'd won a prize for his Hotchkiss turret gun emplacement.
I am stoked about the Bandai King Tiger, even if it is quarter scale. I bought it just to have a Bandai model. Turns out it's not a full interior.
I'm gonna go take some pics, BRB.

Hah hah! Modelers are awesome! Always giving each other free stuff!
BTW, the first picture is a PT-76, an amphibious tank.
The T54/5s that are in front of the palace today may not be the original vehicles. The tank that is supposedly 843 today looks like a Chinese Type 69 (Chinese production T55), while the one that was in museum is definitely a T54B (they are nearly identical but there are subtle differences). Of course, a lot of times what happens when tanks go on display is that they get cleaned up and "fixed" up with whatever happens to be available.

Yep, those displayed Ts are not original anymore. I remember there are a couple of them in the palace. I saw them once but never take photos. There is one in front of my city zoo, in the area of goverment thingies so I don't think I can take any photos as well. But in the war museum and military museum, there are plenty of those so if you need any reference, just ask .
In the first pic, it is an amphibious indeed, sorry about that . The funny thing is the Ts here don't have tank fuel on the rear hull like I saw in real time.

You are going to be a busy little bee! Hey hows that good looking F2 going?
Regards Steve
BTW, IIRC didn't the grand entrance into the grounds by the T55 get stagged at a later date? After the fall of the south? The NVA did an absolutely cracker jack job on their propaganda and I'm surprised they don't run marketing campaigns for products in our free economies . They would be 1st class at it
