DML Tiger I - Initial

Here's a few shots of a recent project. This has been a fun project. I am adding some basic details and modifying the tool stowage pattern to match the Tiger 111. I have not yet decided if it will be straight Panzer Grey of the number 111 or the winter white wash of number 2 as seen in some photos.

Dan,
The tracks shown in the pics are the WWII PRoductions tracks for the early model Tiger I's. I chose to use them over the kit tracks, mostly, because I had a set and they seem to be correct for the specific tank that I wanted to model.

I wish I could say that I only had two of these on the shelf :lol: .. I pre-ordered two of them and have bought a third one recently... it is a nice kit.

I used the Aber screens. They are the closest to 'woven' screen that I have seen. The Eduard ones just as well, but don't seem to look as nice to me.

I'm building a Tiger (Tamiya Early Version) too. So boring to work with PE parts.

Are they handed? I've heard that some of the very early Tigers had those type. Dan

Dan,
It is true that some of the Early/Initial Tigers had 'handed' tracks; however, the photos that I have of a tank from 502nd Schwere Abteilungen show that the 'regular' tracks must have been fitted to these early tanks also.

That is why I wanted to replace the kit tracks which are actually 'handed' and are really pretty well detailed.

Here's some shots of the latest progress that I have made. I've started the smaller details and things have slowed down quite a bit...

I've assembled the mud flaps. I used the kit parts for the rear flaps and some parts from an Aber set (ab35a11) for the front flaps.





I also filled in the vent on the engine access hatch.



And assembled the smoke launchers -



One more... the 'star' of the kit is this rather nice bucket
