Hello All!

Here is my Schwimmwagen progress. This vehicle is going into a dio with a Panzerfahre. You may have seen it posted on ML or WW2. All comments welcome!

Ok here is what is going on. It is the tamyia new schwimmwagen kit. I am using the aber PE set designed for it, and a generic german clamp set. Reference is the excellent WWP museum book, the rossagraph book, and both schiffer books on the kubalwagen/Schwimmwagen. The basic kit is really nice. Tamyia San just took a couple of short cuts to make the kit easier to build.

The biggest issue with the kit is that the inner tub, well just isnt. it's open in the back corners, and lacks the sheetmetal intergration with the outer tub. These were all made from sheet stock, filed to shape, and fit in a trial and error method untill i was happy with the fit. This is visable as the "wings" in the 4th pic.

The transmission cover is also lacking in detail. I first filled in the large holes for the back seats. Since the cover has a concave bow to it, i took the ole dremel tool to it, to create the correct shape. I then added surface detail with plastic strip, and a little green putty.

The rifle butt holders in the kit are molded to the bottom of the out tub - this is incorrect. They are really supported on the rear strengthening ribs. The ribs are sheet stock, the butt holders left over eduard PE fret and punched (and halved) discs.

The real seat covers actually slip over the metal frame, and cover the seat back near the top. This was added with sheet stock, and more green putty.

The under dash stuff is totally missing in the kit,and was made from brass wire, round and strip stock.

Thats about it so far!

good work I'm doing one myself and I've printed your pictures as ref for mine you might like to ass the holes on the tranny cover near the rear stick and entend the inner lip of the body sides on the inside
as they seem a bit too thin too me and they should be squared off at the front winscreen....good luck sanding the seam on the onside....with the detail you added it;s going to be tough

Luke

Thanks Luke. Can I ask what Ass the Holes means, other that the obvious?

Thanks James. I had no choice bout the paint. The modifications I made to the inner tub ment I had to put it in to put the two halves together! So I painted it, put it together, filled the most annoying LARGE gap between the top and bottom body halves, masked off, and filled and painted the inner sides!
