Future or Varnish?

Here’s a question for you. I am ready to make my first attempt at using oils to soften and high light my 250/1 Neu. I will post some pictures on my V-bench later this week. Now for the questions. I painted it with Tamiya and Life Color acrylics. Should I coat it with Future or matt varnish? If so what brand works best with water based acrylics?

Thanks in advance!!!
Curt

Curt,

If I'm understanding you correctly, you've finished your base/coat and are now ready to do your washes, filters, weathering, etc. If thats the case, then go ahead a spray a light coat of Future, this does a few things for you; 1. it seals your base coat and protects it from whatever your going to do next, and 2. the gloss coating will allow you to do multiple layering of your washes or filters (oils), and 3. it makes the process a little more "forgiving" i.e. you can wiipe off easier without damaging your base.

A matt coat pretty much absorbs whatever you do and there is no turning back.

After your satisfied with your oils, then spray your matt coat to give everything a final seal.

Hope that helps, Rick

What Rick mentioned is spot on. Future also helps decals to sit better. After the decals, spray another Future coat over it and then you can start weathering. I would add that you need to make sure the Future covers every spot especially in the nook and crannies.

Looking forward to see your 250

Lawrence

B: A-why not?
D I: Because a woman has the right to choose who she has sex with.
B: [stunned] WHAT...? You joke?
D I: It must be consentual. How 'bout that?
B: [turns to instructor, pauses] Ahahahahaha!
D I: That's good, huh?
B: [pause] Is not good for me

I usually let the future dry for at least 24 hrs. Ideally, 48 hours.
