Thumbs up DUKW truck - Italeri - /35

Gentlemen, this is my new project:

I will don´t use this gun in the truck...
I am thinking about doing in scratch a crane (A frame) in the rear of DUKW, like this picture:

These cranes I think that were made in field

and ... the colors, I am also in doubt....I don't know if I do Mariners or Army (Normandy)

Suggestions are welcome...
could anybody post some colored profile????

thanks, in advance

Thumbs up DUKW - Historic:

Well...
The saga begins...

The DUKW was the amphibious version of the famous US Army CCKW 353 2 ½ ton Cargo Truck. This variant could transport loads directly of the ships to the beaches, in amphibious operations.

This project had beginning after the tremendous success of amphibious Jeep, in 1942. The American Army needed a vehicle of larger capacity that the jeep, but with the same amphibious characteristics. One of the points of the project was that the new vehicle had the same load capacity and acting of the existent trucks, and, mainly, it used the same mechanics. The chosen model for the conversion was CCKW 2 1/2 ton " Deuce and Half "

This new vehicle was viewed with quite a bit of skepticism by the High Syaff Army, but one initial order was authorized in April, 15, 1942. The prototype was done in record 43 days. The DUKW was born !!!

The name means: D: built in 1942; U:amphibious 2 ½ ton; K: front wheel drive;W: rear wheel drive…But the grunts call him Duck !!
The “Ducks” served in all the theaters of the war, from the invasion of the Normandy to the bloody battles of the Pacific.

It is they still continued in use in the postwar period, in civil and military activities until the days today.
A true tribute to the engineers and the project of the vehicle, that it was so quickly become “pregnant.”

Construction:

Well, I start the kit observing the details of the truck.

One of the details that didn't like was it of these screens of refrigeration stamped...

I will substitute for real screens.

But as I don't have any after-market product, I will do the improvements...

Cut off these stamped screeens with Dremel...

and building a frame for the nylon screens: plasticard and patience...

see the exhaust pipe:

other side

More details:

... the top and the botton of the truck:

"Photo-etched" made with Coke can ...

The crane made with spare parts, sprues and Coke can, again:

and cooper wire...

You must already have noticed that I like to invent....ehehehehehhhehee
The front suspension:

...and, for today it is alone, guys !!!

Don't lose the next chapters...

regards, from Brazil !!!!!

Brilliant! I love the fact that you are scratch-building everything. Makes the progress that much more interesting to follow.
