Italeri AS 42 Sahariana in progress.

Just a few pics of my AS42 (yes another one). Replaced the Jerrys with a combination of Model Victoria and stock kit/Tamiya items. Wheels are from Italian model kits. Stowage is a variity of items and re worked Blast models gear...Be warned however. If your planning on replacing the kit Jerry racks, the supplied etch is made for the kit offerings AND WILL NOT FIT correct 1/35 scale cans, a LOT of tweaking is needed... and the Etch is overscale and very fragile, but in my opinion its worth it.
All comments welcome, and thanks to Sam Dwyer for the pics...

Regards,
Ray Blythe.

This looks amazin'! I've heard a lot of horror stories about this kit, with build issues and whatnot, but your in the process of constructin' a masterpiece! I'm lookin' forward to the paint!

Luca

Thumbs up Thanks guys...

Paul & Luca..

Many thanks for the encouraging words...it realy is a great kit that just needs a little TLC. Italeri realy should be congratulated on doing such a unique topic..roll on the AB43 !.
And where would we be (if your an Italian WWII fan) without the excellent castings by Model Victoria?

Here are a couple of shots after priming, with a base coat of overall Sand(as you would expect!).
These pics where also taken by Sam Dwyer, who has been very supportive of this project, again my thanks.

Regards,
Ray .

Ray

Looks fantastic That's one cool looking car. Are you going to replace the wire loops on the rear fender as well?

And something that I always wondered. Why do they always make the steering wheel face down? It's like that for the german halftracks as well. Does it make it easier to steer?

Lawrence

Thanks Marco & Larry...I appreciate your comments.
Lawrence,Im leaving the rear tie downs as they are because by the time I stow it...they wont be seen.I think also the steering wheel angles have something to do with the low slung nature of these vehicles, and the seating position in realtion to the amount of leaverage required to turn it...make sense?.
Regards to all.

Cool Thats a weird but tough car.

What a fabulous job Ray, great detailing.
I have never seen one of these before....what a weirdarse vehicle. Almost sci-fi in ww2. Aliens meets the Afrika Korp, I love it.
Could you give us some background on their use in the war etc?

Ian.

Ray, this is lookin' supreme! You have jus' made me consider buyin' this. I agree with you about Italeri, they really should be praised!

All they need do is jus' keep up the quality they achieved with their superb AB41.

Where were the areas of the kit that needed that TLC you spoke of, Ray?
