Model Box Artwork

I have always been enamoured with usually pretty dramatic artwork that graces the box tops of model kits since I was a kid. I think it is a really interesting and visually exciting genre. Some unimaginative people may claim that a clear plastic window in the box, so one could see what the kit is like, would be a better and more efficient way to package these kits, rather than have the box top art. What a lack luste world that would be! For me, I love looking at the "Battle" images that are used by companies to tantalize our interest in buying their product. I have been keeping scans of kits I build for a few years and here are a few of those scans.

Nice to see the boxes! Would it not be for the boxart I would not build the modells I think. Of all your scans I have built 7 of them.
I just opend my KV-2 from Trumpeter and took a glance. But I will start my next Panther tandem with the KV-2.
What´s up on your workbench?

I've been looking for a model of the Zis-5 for some time now James. It's to do a kooky little vignette, but I haven't been able to find a manufacture of the Zis-5....until now.

Totally agree, box art completes the product and makes the whole deal of getting a kit that much better. I have been keeping my favourite box lids, cutting them out and putting them up on my model room walls for years.....my favourites are the Tamiya ones by a mile. Their boxart is really sharp, Dragon next as i like alot of their older lids like the Panther f and Panther 2.

Forgot to say, I think the old Italeri box art is the best. I remember trying to aspire to have my models look as good as those finished ones on the box top.

I even collect the old original Italeri kits, purely for the box art.......couNERDgh!

The ICM box, with the panzer IV, what are those guys doing? what a ridiculous act. And being watched over by the commander. I would at least use a funnel.

I like those old Tamiya box tops that had the battle scene background (as opposed to the current white background) especially the Tiger 1, Panther, T34 etc.
