G'day KabulClown,

Do you have any more pics of the VT-34 (the vehicle in the last photo)? If you could post any more pics of this vehicle, that'd be great!

Cheers,

John

John it's not a VT-34 (a Czech built ARV on T-34 with supertructure, winch and earth spade) but rather a T-34(T) basic towing/recovery variant with turret removed, turret hole blanked off with plate and hatch + cupola grafted on that.

Cheers,
Christophe

Christophe, thanks for the info on the T-34(T)!

Hi Christophe,

Thanks for that! It's been so long since I've even thought about this vehicle, I'd forgotten its designation!

The 'T' is the Russian word for tractor, isn't it?

Still a cool vehicle. I'm thinking of doing one as a PLA vehicle.

Cheers,

John

hmmm....

The 'T' is the Russian word for tractor, isn't it?

I meant to write "the 'T' is an abbreviation of the Russian word for tractor, isn't it?"

Need more coffee...

Take it easy,

Dont suppose you're still there and could look for this, or seen it already. Its something of a mystery, waiting to be found:

Disston tank, based on a tractor:
http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/afghani...fghanistan.html (http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/afghanistan/afghanistan.html)

It was last seen at this old outdoors armor museum the Soviets had. Would have to think it'd pop up somewhere... Does this museum/display still exist in any way?

@baumgar: i've seen couple of SU-76's on the main compound where i took all pix. see pic number 6 in the first lot.
the museum does not exist anymore since everything has been looted or destroyed during the fightings in and around Kabul. But will look for them and post pix if i find them.

Thanks, just to clarify, the oddity a lot of folks are interested in is the Disston tank, the big tall thing next to the SU-76.

I wonder if it might still be laying around near where that museum/display used to be. Cant imagine it would have been of any use...

Hello Christoph,
Very interesting pictures and vehicle dump!

What is the exact location of this dump?

Another question, I'am very interested in main battle tank wreck and relics. Can you compile a list of how many T-34, T-54, T-55 etc are on that dump??

BTW, are you serving there in the German army?

Best regards,
Lesley Delsing

4 Neil: I found it on the internet. It's the only pic of this 'tank' I have.

No, I don't remember the address I found the pic at.
BTW 'Armor of the Afghanistan War' from Concord Publications has 3 b/w images of this vehicle (and even Universal Carrier, Su-76 and C.V.35).

@Delsing: this dump is located outside Kabul close to the shooting range and KMTC (Kabul Military Training Camp) in Pol-e-Charkhi.
I can't tell you the number of tanks parked there, but must be in the hundreds. T-34's maybe 3 or 4 only. The rest are mainly T-55's and T-62's.

No, i'm not with the German Army. Working for a logistics company here.
