A Grossdeutchsland PzIII Ausf K with OSTKETTEN tracks.

Hi!

This is a PzIIIAusfK command tank of the Gorssdeutschland Division that fought in Russian Front, probably one of the first units to be painted in Dunkelgelb in Germany.

To improve mobility in mud and snow a so called "Ostketten"tracks were issued to units fighting in Russia. Those widened tracks helped to negotiate in difficult terrains.

Now the photos of my model...It was assembled straight from the box. This model was done by DML and the tracks used were from DML too.It was painted with Humbrol enamels and weathered with oils and MIG pigments.

I hope that you enjoy it...comments are welcome!

Regards!

Luiz.

Luiz

Nice job on the K I am just wondering what information you have that it is painted in Dunkelgelb?

This is Panzergraf's mount and from all the photos that I have seen points to Grey.

To depict this particular vehicle requires some work as the DML kit is not exactly correct.

Hi Luiz

Actually, there are quite a number of photos of Strachwitz's Pz III K and they show it in Grey, I'm afraid. I am actually kitbashing this exact vehicle at the moment with the new DML J hull and a reworked Tamiya Pz IV H turret.

The kit's turret number is actually incorrect. If you look closely, you can see that the shape of the number is different and it is only a white outline. Also of interest is the square patch of Dunkelgelb behind the number.
