Painting/Weathering Steps

Could anybody give me the steps when to do what?
Filters, dotting oils, chipping (and perhaps some other methods). What finish matt/satin/gloss to use for each method?
Thanks
Stan

Hi

I can provide a general hint: If you don't use them already, take a look at Osprey's Modelling series. They have host of books on armour modelling (e.g. "Modelling the Panther Tank" where the modelling of four Panther variants is described in step-by-step detail) and modelling of personel.

They are excellent...!!

Jochen is right to say that there are some good books but as we are a band of brothers here at PA let me see if I can help you by pointing you toward just one of the many fantastic threads on this great site [BTW I'm not being smart, this place is amazing!!!].

Just one straight away that comes to mind .

Why would the clowns not let people into the tent? What's the point of the show if they don't? .

Coops is absolutely right to point out many of the outstanding threads at PA.

My advice was purely general... and I find it a befitting measure of the quality of the Osprey books that they originally actually pointed me in the direction of PA, as there is a reference to PA under relevant websites in "Modelling the late Panzerkampfwagen IV".

But still; in general terms they are good and inexpensive.

Hi

The link that Coops provided will show you the work of one of my favourite modellers and I hope one day to be half as good. It's a shame the pictures are out of sequence but that doesn't in any way detract from the results and information contained within the thread.

It's good to have a site you can go to and call your modelling "home" but the internet is a big place, made for exploring the many resources that are available so I see no reason to restrict your information source to one site.

Here is a link to another avenue of information. The site itself is stacked full of information, the trouble can be finding the specific thing you want to know, but I have to say on the whole most of the folks there are as helpful and generous with their knowledge as they are here. The more the merrier I say.

I think this example is probably one of the better ones Ive seen here. If you look at the subtlety of detail and how the effects of the weathering arent overdone. It basically looks real.
