Been working on the details of the fighting compartment in between...

Although I did not write any blog, I was working on and off on this build in the past years.

I did a lot of research on the mortar base, because it was not clear how the mortar was mounted. It was only recently that I finally found a photo which confirmed the look of the "Spezialbodenplatte". And I also found the measurements in a drawing by Hillary Doyle from 2006.

Here is a photo of the base which was found somewhere in France:


Here is my version in plastic, based on the drawing by Hillary Doyle:


The mortar was scratchbuild based on the Dragon kit:


And here it is test-fitted with the new mortar base:


The next thing was the front mounts of the mortar. According to the reference photo the front legs had mounts attached to the side walls:


Here is the version that I scratchbuild based on the photo above:


And with both sides visible:

Hi Again,

still working on the details of the fighting compartment. Lots of small details of course, and very time consuming. But I am trying to keep my pace going

There are 5 ammo boxes on the floor between the mortar legs and another 8 in a rack on the right just next to the back door. And one more, on top of the rack, on a tragegestell which was used to carry the ammo case on the back.

This is the tragegestell which I scratchbuilt using copper wire:


I used the tamiya ammo box as a master and changed a few small details:


Then I made a silicon form:


And used some fimo to make copies:


The rack was scratchbuilt with some plastic stripes and the tragegestell mounted on top:


Some of the photos are quite poor, sorry for that

Now I have to prepare the upper hull parts and then finally I can close it up and start on the outside

The engine bays for these machines was the external color? Not red oxide?
