thanks for you input on this subject.

I've seen posts on some motorsports-related websites showing the remnants of board tracks still visible on Google Earth to this day. I don't think people realize just how big some of these tracks were--some were nearly as long as some modern Nascar ovals and contained millions of board-feet of lumber.
One suggestion though, I believe the tracks transition from flat to banking was more smoothly curved than your mock-up shows. I think it would be more dramatic to have less flat area to the base too.
Can't wait to see more progress!

Curtis,
Thank you for your knowledge, and suggestions on my board-track racer diorama project.
Yes, from what I have researched back in the day 1911 -1930 the were numerous board-tracks all over the United States. Track lengths ranged from 3/4 - two mile long race ways. And yes, how many millions of board-feet to make all those tracks?
I agree that, "the tracks transition from flat to banking was more smoothly curved than your mock-up shows" and plan to adjust to that.
If you notice on the old time photo, it appears that the transition goes from zero to 60 degrees within 4 to 5 board widths. I will be checking that out once I ket the miniature planks cut, with further mock-ups.
I also want to replicate the lumber framing holding up the board-track.
This is a challenge and hope I am up to it.
