Tiger and Panther

Ok I thought I would ask this here
I want to build a tiger I , thinking an early Tiger I, maybe in gray or desert
But I like the late version with the steel wheels (will late need zim.?)

I also already have Drag. Pather A late which I have the Cav resin zim for I was also thinking about getting WWII prod. tracks for both models

Ok so here is the ?? which tiger kit will be the best base to start with
and I would like to do a winter scheme for the Panther does anyone have built pic of either/both so I could get a start
Thanks
Wayne

A Tiger is a good choice Wayne. About [492?] 1/3 can be built without zimm but the rest must have it on. DML have now got a late with zimm but for anything between and from your LHS it's Tamiya still with AM zimm.
I aways wanted to build one of the last Tigers built that didn't have zimm, early hull (late config.) and a mid turret (initial config.), but like most things to do with our hobby I'd start it only to have DML release a kit of the same said tanks (sent to sPzAbt.505).

Good luck

So by this statement DML has this config of the Tiger??

If you want to do a late (Steel Wheel) Tiger, then it has to have zim, as it first appeared on the mid production vehicles, and Tiger E production ceased before the order to abandon zim was issued. I would go with the Dragon kit if you want a late Tiger, but be advised that the standard release will only build vehicles with a 40mm roof. If you want a earlier production steel wheel Tiger, see if you can find the Alfred Kurzmaul kit, which has a 25mm roof.

Any idea for a kit for early
I was thinking the Tam early or initial version
I guess the initial would have to be africacorp where as the early could be eastern front ??

Well, there is the Dragon Initial Tiger (502 on the east) and the Cyberhobby Afrika Tiger, if you can find them, but they go for big bucks on ebay. Best bet now would be a Tamiya kit.

Wayne, its 392 or 492 [and now that I've done that and I can see the numbers I think it's 392] before the turret changes denoting the mid Tigers [I have most of my stuff packed up just now].
Tamiya Early is a "mixed bits" tank
Tamiya's Mid is around hull 800-ish
DML/Tamiya Tunisian Tiger OR DML's Wittman's early Tiger I are good starters.

A quick link to help out a bit

Sorry I didn't post sooner but I just don't have time anymore for any bloody thing [12hr days, six or seven days a week]

Send a message via MSN to Phm
some hybrids had steel wheels and no zimmerit coating.
there were also some got transfered around, had later modifications, but never had zimmerit applied. 411 from s.pz.ab 506 for example.
