Surviving Panther at Houffalize Belgium

Hello,

During my hollidays I stopped by at the little town of Houffalize in Belgium and took some pics of a surviving Panther. The Panther is in bad shape.

I hope someone can do with them.

Tony

Thats looking very sad these days. I'd say its had a few kids climbing over it :.
When you see what can be done with a few bit from a Polish river it would be better to give it to one of the collectors and get something for the town in return.
I like the graffiti on the side, says it all but its a bit futile on this tank .

I dunno. There's a certain poignancy about weapons of war rusting away to nothing. Some of you might remember the 1960s children's book, Drummer Hoff Fired It Off. At the very end of the story, the cannon sits abandoned in the field, broken, with birds nesting in it, a spider spinning its web, grass growing up around it. Hopefully, one day, they'll all go the way of this tank.

Yes thats very true and this is a very long way from destruction
You can see what they can do with a wreck from the bottom of the river here [http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com/panther.htm], so we don't need to get too up set yet .

IIRC there are only two Tiger I in Russia. One is a mid production command Tiger and the other was a late production tank that was used as a target.
The target Tiger was in a bad way and was take from away and a fake gun was added along with some wheels and track and it sits on a concrete base now.

Hope that helps , Steve

What a shame to let that tank waste away like that. If they are not going to take care of it they should sell it to someone that would. A true rare piece of history rotting away.

I think it would be better to preserve such a vehicle for future generations. Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. I feel that has some truth to it.
