You know what the kicker is? The last time they had one of these 'guess the new kit' contests I guessed Panther Ausf G. I think I even posted something on here or Armorama about how a Panther Ausf G would be such a great kit, with so many options!

I agree, a commander figure would be cool...at least a half figure so you could model him in a combat situation, just peeking out of the cupola...

Yeah RC, I get it. Most of my model bench time is spent building mundane workhorses of war and more often than not these are Allied subjects...so I hear ya!

I suspect that my 18 years of association with DML has affected my own opinions. Mostly I just shut up!

Nonetheless, I've seen some of the test shots on this Panther and it boggles my mind. The spare track hangers on the rear hull are incredible!

As for the artwork, well all comments are appreciated. It's just that these things are produced in such a short time. One has to come up with an idea fast and proceed with it. As for colors and markings, sometimes one has to trust what
the current wisdom can offer.

I daresay that it might be best if I return to my usual practice and remain an observer on these DG's.

Have fun!

Hi Ron.

I certainly hope I havent offended you, and I'm sure the others appreciate your contributions as I do.

Howerver, if current wisdom says it was painted as Steve's Panther G and your (fantastic) box art has depicted, can you please share it with us?

I was under the impression that it was Mr Hilary Doyle, (from a vague source, so I'm probably wrong) whom first proposed the yellow and green camo theroy, but that he has since changed his mind on this??

Willy.

Mr. Volstad:
Are you going to be at the Nationals in KC or Mastercon this year?

I would like to purchase more of your paintings.
Mike

No worries Willy! Normally my thick skin suffices where my thick skull doesn't. But now and again I slip. As for the green, I was totally reliant on Steve's color choices
not to mention his own build. Given that even these very late Panthers received a variety of camo paint jobs, I gave little consideration to the green/brown issue.
While I have the greatest respect for the work of Jentz and Doyle, 35 years of researching military history has taught me that primary sources seldom tell the whole story.

Sorry Mike, won't make either event this year. However I should have a website
up sometime in the fall. I'll try not to make a secret of it when it's ready!

Again, thanks for the support.

Cheers,
Ron V

Hi Guys,

here is Ron's boxart rendered into bw. To me the colors look pretty much the same as in Willys photo

lol. They look look dead on to me too Ambjoern. Of course you can't further the case either for or against by just grey scaling a coloured drawing.

It's banger art work, and I'm sure new evidence will come to light saying there colours were just as Ron's box art.

Best Regards, Willy.

Looking at the pic in Concord's "US tank battles in Germany", it seems that there were three colors used. The brown and green are of the same lightness/ darkness so it's not very visible.
Btw. I'll take Ron's artwork with right or wrong camo scheme over a less talented illustrator with more "historicaly likely/ correct" work anyday!

Hi Marc.

Are you refering to the one KO'd in front of the hotel? If so, it's only two colours.

Cheers, Willy.
