Hey Tony, the tips of the grenades are a light silver. I'm also building this kit right now but I'm not as far as you are. You've done a great job so far and I can't wait to see how you paint the Grille!

Painting the Grille

Hello,

Here are the first pics of the Grille with paint. I have sprayed the interior German yellow, brushpainted the grenades, seats & radios. Then I gave the interior a wash with MIG Productions neutral wash. The exterior is only basepainted German yellow. Let me know how to proceed next.

More tomorrow,

Tony

Hey Tony...your painting!!

With the open top I imagine that you'll want to spend some time in there to really make it special. I would probably proceed on two levels from this point. I think that first I'd go around with my paints (in my case very thinned Vallejo's) and place some nice subtle color filters on the individual items...such as the boxes, mounts, fittings, etc. During this stage don't be afraid to add highlights and shadows...much like our figure painter friends do. Then, I'd have another go with the washes...probably a medium-heavy pin wash around the detail, then maybe an overall wash just to tie it together.

The second light overall wash is where you'll see the benifits of the careful filtering first step ...the 2nd wash will tend to intensify the subtle color differences from the filters, helping to indiviualize and and interest to the stuff inside.

You've got a nice build, it will paint up nicely - Have fun.

Rick

Rick makes some great suggestions. Spend a little extra time on the interior and you'll be glad that you did. Tonal variation with filters and washes as suggested is a great start and a bit of wear and tear from the crew should give it a lot of life.
