Tamiya 1:35 Hetzer Mittlere Produktion

Hi Folks,
Not to much free time lately but I managed to steal some free minutes of my time to play with new Tamiya kit. Some basic work done so far.

Lower hull parts glued in with no problems at all. Fit is great. Just needed to fill some small sinkmarks in parts D68 and D69. Also filled small gap that remained on top of parts A19 and A21. Its barely visable but somehow kept my eye focus on it

All wheels sanded and cleaned and ready for tracks and painting.

Two parts on the left cleaned from seam and ready to get installed and two on the right still ahead of sanding.

Please, do not expect to quick progress but hope to do some work on this one as its easy and self-gluable kit.

Will follow Flak's thread on this one to get some hints

Chris

So far so good.
Are you going to turn it into a "Chwat" form the Warsaw Uprising?

If you are thinking of back dating the kit, Eduard's Hetzer back deck parts fit almost perfectly to the Tamiya kit. Dan

Tom -no, not this time. Hope to do that in near future but with this particulair kit its gonna be mittlere with some additional stuff.
Will add some Aber PE - the one that does not require soldering (no such gear and skills here ) To be exact PE side screens, periscope protection, notek mount and maybe some other small bits.

Some time ago I have collected some reference regarding Chwat. Its quite well researched at forum www.modelarstwo.org.pl
Guys there did some nice work regarding camo scheme etc. This one is a must do in the future. Maybe some AM companies will produce updates kits for Tamiya model that will help with backdating it. Montex does nice masks to paint Chwat.

I have Friuls for fruh Hetzer and have to check whether they might be okay for the mittlere as well? Think they might be same as in fruh version. Iddlers and sprockets look same as in fruh version. If these tracks are okay I'll add them as well.

Dan - thank you very much tip about Eduard. Since I do not have that kit maybe I will get this part reproduced by someone in resin in the future when I will try to backdate it to CHWAT.

Chris

Tamiya's kit represents an august-production Hetzer. So I think that the Friul early tracks set would be suitable.

Chris

You wouldn't have to. As far as I can see, Tamiya provides an early engine deck. So if you wanted to build "Chwat", you would have to replace the barrel and the mantlet (Armorscale makes nice one), add the mesh guard to the muffler (Aber PE set to early Hetzer contains it) and remove Pilzen from the roof...

It's such a nice kit.. I'm looking forward to updates

Regards,
Mateusz

Thx vm comments Erik, Mateusz and Marco.

Erik - its exactly the perfect kit when you do not have much time. Should go smooth I think.
Just some small sink marks need filling which is easy so far fit and part crispness is great.
I got it at RainbowTen at pretty nice price. Think it will be available in Warsaw shops in a week or two. Than I should get another one for Chwat conversion.

Mateusz - great info on friul tracks. Will be happy to have them installed. Its my first Friul set by the way. So seems conversion into Chwat is easier than I thought. Armorscale has great barrell for it but its missing the correct mantlet. Hopefully Armorscale guys will make a new set with full mantlet of initial/early Hetzer like the one they recently realised for late model.

Late model by Armorscale:

Initial model for Chwat by Armorscale but without mantlet sadly:

Since muffler mesh is in Aber set as I have mentioned extra parts are available. Just early mantlet is missing.

Marco - will watch your build with great interest as well. Since I am not doing interrior will be happy to watch how you do it. Do you use Aber set for it?

Chris

I forgot about that. That's a pity On the other hand, it is possible to rework early Armorcsale mantlet to earliest one - like here.
Btw, as far as I remember CMK makes some barrels&mantlets for Hetzers. Maybe they have correct one in offer?
