Torben, I'll never let you down

... let's pick up things where we left them almost one and a half years ago, shall we?

Ready for paint: the fighting compartment.

I fixed the shell catcher in this position. Because the floor of the fighting compartent is situated in too heightened a position (i.e.: wrong), I couldn't copy the lowered position as it seen in the picture I loosely base my build on, unfortunately. It actually would have worked, but it certainly would have looked bad.

Finally I have grabbed a can of my trusted Tamiya primer (highly recommended!).

The results are very satisfying. Smooth and sturdy surfaces, an excellent base for the next layers of paint. No details get lost. I'm also glad my clean-up was thorough: as of yet, I've not found unnecessary any glue or putty remains.

Tomorrow I'm going to brush the black control layer. Saturday is reserved for the Elfenbein and Gray colors.

Thanks for (still) watching,
Johannes

Yes, I'm back, I even have an update with me and it only took me about a day Let's see what I can do until Sunday, when I have to leave again.

Edit: Forgot some pics!

(after the application of Tamiya primer)

Here you can make out the excellent quality of the coating.

I added this rag today.

Here's the promised black layer of paint (Paint it Black).

The coating looks a little strange on all the pictures, but it's fine on the real model. Surprisingly smooth. Hopefully the next coats will turn out just as nicely.

Here's the commander's cupola, as seen from the inside. You can also see the installed prisms.

Cheers,
Johannes

Dear all,

instead of practicing servile obedience to the reference images, I decided to go down route creative. The interior of the Aberdeen/Ft. Lee Elefant has two distinct colors applied in the gun box. The lower areas are painted in a grayish tone, whilst the upper areas are painted in the well-known Elfenbeinweiß of German AFVs. However, the general condition of the interior doesn't make it easy the determine where one color starts and the other ends. The Ferdinand in Kubinka Tank Museum (Russia) is painted all green inside. I don't know whether this color was applied in the museum or whether it is the original layer.

Some flaws have to be taken care of with a regular brush. There was no time left to do it today. Currently the interior looks pretty hideously, but this will become better as soon as the detail painting and subsequent weathering process will start (see for reference the driver's/RO's compartment painting earlier in this thread).

Precious Tamiya tape was only used for the most important areas. For larger areas, I used paper and blu-tac (Pritt Tac in Germany).

As you can tell from this photograph, my supplies almost didn't last --- phew!

Here's the plain-colored gun box's interior. Some areas were not reached sufficiently. I need to fix this later.

The floor, unveiled. There are some of the blotches visible.

The gun in its place...

The ammo holder tiles will be painted in several wood shades in the next step.

... which is going to be shown in the next update!

Yours,
Johannes

For many years I watched your build and now it is almost over. Fantastic as always and a true credit to you.

Why would the clowns not let people into the tent? What's the point of the show if they don't? .
