I know what you mean....my solution is the AFV Club wheels and tracks set. The Tamiya road wheel arms are just simplifications anyway. The real 251 idlers for example are opposite as they should be, in other words, one adjuster/axle faces forward, the other side axle faces rearward... The lower hull lacks some serious detail as well...in fact there isn't any! Also, the side armor plates for the lower hull aren't there.

Nothing you can do about the engine bay doors, unless you replace the upper hull with one from Dragon for example or sand them down, but replacing the upper hull panel would need some work to get them to mate together properly.

The Dragon upper hull panel is much better detailed also.

These are my solutions for my Stuka Zu Fuss project.

Cheers, Paul

Per James' request...

View looking forward towards crew area

I have no views showing both fire extinguishers being installed obviously, but the center and lower right photo shows one installed in the 251/7 Engineer vehicle. The other box frames are for the Engineer vehicle only...the text doesn't mention what they're used for.

WOW!
Thanks for reference photos, guys!

I know, that there's a lot of flaws in Tamiya kit - it's damn old.
I'll try to do as much as I can for "real looking" appearence of this 251, but i don't want to do serious surgery.

Main idea of this project is improvement of my kit bashing skills and painting training (thinking of something crazy and original).

By the way - one more kit added to my megamix - DML SdKfs 250/5 neu.

PS I've just ordered one more DML 251 В for superdetailing with Lion road and Voyager PE and resin. Also thinking to order two more. Yes, yes, yes, I know - I'm crazy .

Yes I do think you're crazy... I didn't know DML did a 251 B?

Your "to do " list looks like mine, mostly un-finished....

good Luck Gopher!

If you want a more accurate 251, I'd suggest you pick up the AFV Club kits. They are superior to Dragon's in most respects. There are dimensional issues overall with the Ausf D from Dragon (compared to the scale drawings in Panzer Tracts), the drive sprocket lacks the rollers and the teeth aren't offset as they ought to be, etc.

Surely, it will look like a 251, but if you are planning to super detail, why not opt for the better starting point?

Thanks Arthur!

Arild, thanks for information!
I'm planning to at least 2 more 251 D, one C and one B.
One of the D's will be from AFV.

PS It's hard to say, but this project wont be OOTB any more - lots of Aber PE will be used.

PPS Can anybody post photos, showing wires from radio to antenna mounting and to headphones?

Hi guys

While this may be a bit out of topic, I just cant help myself. I assume that the book scans posted by Serpico are from the Squadron 251 book, but who on earth wrote the text for it??? The image that shows page 47 has a description of the racks as being for engineer equipment. Hell no, the large rack is for the radio (Fug 7, if I remember correctly) and the small mounts are for the radio transformers. The 251/7 in Munster is a command version.

And now back to the topic. I am looking forward to follow the progress of your build. If you need pictures of the 251/7 and /9 from Munster I may be able to help you. I think I got around 100 of those two vehicles.

Greetings from Denmark
Torben Nielsen
