Armored "Avatar" Ausf B

I thought I'd start my first vBench with a non armor project as most of my tools and kits are in storage. I ordered a pair of skulls for my daughters from a medical supply company (for that great American marketing holiday - Halloween), and then saw Ian's Avatar post.

Very Cool, I thought - so this the start/before picture, and I'm going to work on my skills/techniques on this puppy... tentatively it will be a Karelian Raider... with the appropriate Finn markings, etc...

-Metalizer paint,
-Molding A+B putty into larger sheets for "plate armor"
-Soldering - a trip to Radio Shack for some lights and resistors to provide a little interior lighting
-Try out the "rock salt" method of paint chips

Looking forward to any comments or criticisms ... Ian, if you're reading - any suggestions on a the type of modelling clay to use - and how did you get it to "set up"? I'm going to use Milliput at this point - but that may get a little pricy.

More to follow!

Paul

I got permission from... wait for it...

Yer Mom?

Speaking of relatives - how is the littlest Sowle, anyway?

I actually worked on this this weekend... I'm working on a snap down weapons sight/display... spent a ton of time carving out old amber lens from sunglasses... looked great installed - came back two hours later and they looked "etched" from the CA!?!?

And I know I hadn't touched that portion of the lens? Weird.

Did u vote?

Vote? Hai!! We need a change around here. But we'll leave the political discussion outside the Planet. Don't want to offend anyone.

As for the littelist Satan....er Sowle. Hmmm. She's devoloping the control issues of her father, along with the tempermant and stubborness of her mother. Very, very...I cannot say very enough times, bad mix.

Not sure what to tell you about the CA problem. I would have to actually model to have experience with that.

Probably the gassing out of the CA. You know you can lift finger prints with the fumes. Yessah. Usually, I think, if you coat it with future before gluing you don't get that crazing.

I would suggest using some CA accelerator to prevent the gassing.
