Panzer II's at Kursk

Hello Planeteers and friends,

I was wondering if anybodyís got photos of Panzer IIís during Operation Citadel at Kursk. It doesnít matter what model pf Pz II is. So far I have been able to find only a single photo and its kind of blurry.

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Dave

I have both volumes of JJF's Operation Citadel and there are pics of what you need. I will look through and post some shots from it.

David, here's a couple - both from Kursk - The Greatest Tank Battle by MK Barbier.

Shot taken before the battle in Late 1942.."Red Army sergant removes the machine guns...from Pz II. pg 45.

pg. 117. "brewing up"

Thanks Rick!

Nice photos. Interestingly the cammo on the second photo appears to be Panzer Gray with an overspray of yellow. What do you think?

My bet is that it's Yellow over Grey...the contrast of the photos is very high so it probably looks more exaggerated than it really is...but it makes it easier to make-out the pattern (or lack thereof) it's pretty random.

The Pz II in the last photo is not an F (not that anybody said that it was) but a B or early C (that is if you are of the belief like I am that the later C had the conicle rear idler factory installed). Looks like they got hit by an air or artillary strike. I have seen photos of these two tanks before but with out the smoke. Nice photos.

Dave

Here's another Pz II

And a color plate

I have a bunch of other PzII's from eBay but I can't tell for sure if they are from Kursk.

Thank Laz,

Between those and the photos Rick posted I got enough for what I was planning.

It seems that the color scheme could be either way, gray with yellow overspray or yellow and green.

Thanks a million guys
