Sunken giant - KV-2 in river
1 Attachment(s)
Hello planetarians!

One more unfinished project.
Old PA members can remember my still unfinished KV-220 project.
I had half of KV hull and a KV-2 turret, as a remains of that project.

Ones I saw this photo and thought that it's perfect for KV remains=)

Some progress pics soon.

When I first saw this photo I thought that guy was trying to hold it in position with that skinny rope.:D Then I figured out he's fishing.

Can't wait to see this completed Andrey

I really hope to finish it this year =)

I'm going to use Aber basic set for KV-2 and Model Point barrel.

Excellent idea, and a great start. I'll be watching this very closely.

Thanks, Johannes!

Gopher 10-20-2015 06:29 PM

Like this? ))

Jochen 10-21-2015 07:25 AM

Looks really awesome: very nice cutting work to execute an interesting idea. Can't wait to see how the water is going to look.

canjuaan 10-21-2015 07:26 AM

Terrific. Looks like it really comes out of nowhere :)

Gopher 10-21-2015 02:14 PM

Thanks, guys!
Lost in textures, as my wife said )

I haven"t decided yet how to do water.
Right now i have such plan - paint base in brown tones, put a few layers of clear cote and make water surface with gel denso.
Also going to add some autumn leaves.

By the way - who have an experiece with mixing gel denso with acrylic paints?

Gopher 10-21-2015 03:58 PM

Some more progress with basement

Pvt Mutt 10-21-2015 04:44 PM

Andrey I feel like your plan is sound.
Without the bottom half of the tank the water will have to appear muddy and the reason you can only see what is above the surface.

I bet your best bet would be to talk to a ship builder for the Denso or what ever it's called.

Andrey, just a thought: the box art depicting the KV-2 seems to have boxes or tanks on the the left fender that are level with or very slightly higher than the hull (can't quite tell...).

Should the front one of these just protrude through the water's surface?

Many regards

Gopher 10-22-2015 05:25 PM

You are absolutely right Tony. I'm gonna try to do muddy water effect.

I understood what do you mean, Jochen.
I missed it. Will add them.
Thanks for noticing.

Gopher 10-25-2015 03:23 PM

Some more progress.
Stowage bins added.

Jochen 10-26-2015 01:51 PM

Looking very good...:thumb::thumb:

Gopher 10-26-2015 03:45 PM

Thanks, Jochen!

Nice work so far Andrey

greybeard 10-29-2015 01:41 AM

Excellent idea. Many KV were bogged that summer.
Maybe you will find inspiration from these photos.

Best regards

Jochen 10-29-2015 11:44 AM

Wow, what an impressive collection of pictures!

Well dug out, Scott...:thumb::thumb:

Gopher 10-29-2015 02:00 PM

Thanks, guys!

greybeard 10-30-2015 04:33 AM

Here is another site with KV-2s. Not so many photos of bogged KV-2s.

Here is one of the more interesting:

Gopher 11-04-2015 02:29 PM

Construction finished.
Next step - primer.

Jochen 11-06-2015 01:24 PM

Looking good, Andrey, I think this is really something else!

Should the driver's hatch also be open: I mean that guy must have been dying to get out (no pun intended).

Gopher 11-07-2015 10:13 AM

Thanks Jochen!
I was too lazy to make two PE hatch lock mechanisms, so I closed the drivers hatch =)
Lets imagine, that driver closed it after getting out =)

Pvt Mutt 11-07-2015 12:08 PM

Gopher 11-08-2015 01:56 PM

Primed and painted in green

Jochen 11-08-2015 03:32 PM

Still looking good, Andrey...:thumb::thumb:

But, but... your storyline doesn't add up: it is even worse than one of Tony Lee's stories...:D:D

I just can't see a Russian tank driver closing his hatch on his own initiative when abandoning the tank settling on the river bottom....

... unless of course a communist comrade politruk standing on the river bank screamed at him to close the hatch on that piece of USSR equipment OR he'll be shot!

Maybe you should include that politruk looking at the beast in the vignette?

Pvt Mutt 11-08-2015 07:07 PM

Hey Jocken that's no way to talk about an old man. That war was a long time ago and I get kinda mixed up on some parts.:D

Jochen 11-09-2015 02:21 AM

No problem, Tony: we're old men, you and me both, and our stories may not be entirely true but at least they're good...!!
